What is the process to become a volunteer?
The journey begins with an application and a brief interview. Once accepted, you will attend our comprehensive Training Academy, followed by a field internship program where you will be mentored by experienced crisis responders.
What does the training program entail?
Our Volunteers receive 55 hours of trauma-informed instruction covering topics such as emotional first aid, supporting the bereaved, child trauma response, and emergency agency collaboration. No previous professional experience is required.
What is the on-call time commitment?
Volunteers typically commit to three 12-hour shifts per month. During your shift, you are expected to be available to respond immediately when requested by emergency services within the Merrimack Valley community.
How do I handle the emotional toll of responding?
TIP is a volunteer-powered family. We provide monthly continuing education, structured debriefings after every scene, and a dedicated support network to ensure our volunteers are cared for as they care for others.
Are there any prerequisites for applying?
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and a clean criminal background check. Most importantly, we look for a high level of compassion and the ability to listen with empathy.
